Since 2008 the Dutch Tax Administration can designate an institution to be a “Public Benefit Organisation” (Dutch: Algemeen Nut Beogende Instelling, ANBI). At least 90% of the efforts of an ANBI has to be focused on the general good. The Dutch Gorilla Foundation was registered as ANBI on September 24th 2015.
All donations to ANBIs are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. Additonally the Dutch Gorilla Foundation itself is exempted from inheritance tax and gift tax on inheritances and gifts it receives, except on those made under a condition such that it is not for public benefit. The board members receive no remuneration for their work. They have the right to reimbursement of expenses incurred by them in the performance of their duties. Supporting documents need to be submitted and reimbursement is done within the margins agreed.
