Privacy statement

The Dutch Gorilla Foundation processes personal data and other data in accordance with the applicable legislation. The privacy of our donors, guardians, volunteers, website visitors and other interested parties is of great importance to us. The personal data is therefore handled and secured with the utmost possible care. The Dutch Gorilla Foundation complies with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The data controller is the Dutch Gorilla Foundation based in Arnhem, the Netherlands.

Processing of personal data

We keep records in separate administrations of our donors, guardians and other relations. These other relations are individuals who are known to the Dutch Gorilla Foundation (e.g. by participating in a campaign, subscribing to the newsletter or requesting information), but who are not a donor or a guardian. Personal data of volunteers is recorded in the volunteer administration.

The collection of personal data takes place via the website when you subscribe to our e-mail newsletter or when you register as a guardian, donor or volunteer. And offline, this is done via our donation or adoption leaflet or a telephone call. The Dutch Gorilla Foundation uses your personal data (name, address, place of residence, telephone number, e-mail address, gender and date of birth) to carry out its activities, to keep you informed about what we do and to do fundraising. We will always aim to take your preferences into account. If you however do not wish to receive this information, please inform the Dutch Gorilla Foundation in writing. You can find the contact details below.

Financial data and data relating to a transaction, donation, purchase or payment are collected in order to action the agreement (donation, adoption or purchase). This data will of course not be provided to third parties for commercial purposes.

Contact with guardians, donors and our other relations

New guardians and donors receive a welcome message by post and e-mail from the Dutch Gorilla Foundation confirming the donation or adoption. If you have provided your e-mail address to the Dutch Gorilla Foundation (either by own subscription to the newsletter or when you’ve signed up as a guardian or donor) we will keep you informed about our work via the monthly newsletter “GorillaPost”. Additionally we will ask your support for special events or initiatives, inform you on achievements of the foundation and occasionally ask for a contribution.

The Dutch Gorilla Foundation uses Mailchimp for sending out e-mail campaigns. Mailchimp helps us to gain insight into the results of our campaigns. This includes open rates, being able to trace which recipient did (not) open the e-mail and clicked on any links in the body of the e-mail. This tracking data gives the Dutch Gorilla Foundation the possibility to improve the content of our newsletter and better connect the recipients of our mailings.
